Remarks:
The tabulated rated currents are for cables in open air, but can also be used for cables supported on a surface. If the cable is wound on a drum under load, the rated currents should be reduced according to Note 2 below, and for cables that can be covered, Note 3 below.
Flexible cables wound on winding drums: The rated currents of cables used on winding drums should be reduced by the following factors: a) Radial drum b) Vented cylindrical drum: Vented: 85% 1 cable layer: 85% Non-vented: 75% 2 cable layers: 65% 3 cable layers: 45% 4 cable layers: 35% A radial drum is one in which spiral layers of cable are accommodated between spaced flanges; if
If equipped with solid flanges, the rated currents given above must be reduced and the drum is described as non-vented. If the flanges have adequate openings, the drum is described as vented.
A ventilated cylindrical cable drum is one in which cable layers are accommodated between widely spaced flanges, and the drum and end flanges have adequate ventilation openings.
When the cable may be covered or wound during loading, or when air movement over the cable is restricted, the rated current must be reduced. It is not possible to specify the reduction amount, but the rating factor table for winding drums can be used as a guide.
For 180°C cables, ambient temperature ratings allow for a conductor operating temperature of up to 150°C. Consult the cable manufacturer for more information.
When the cables in this table are to be connected to equipment or accessories designed to operate at a temperature lower than the maximum operating temperature of the cable, the cables must be rated for the maximum operating temperature of the equipment or accessory (see Regulation 512.1.5).
When grouping a cable in this table with other cables, the cable must be rated for the lowest maximum operating temperature of any of the cables in the group (see Regulation 512.1.5).
